There is so much to enjoy in Duluth, Minnesota during your winter getaway. Not only Valentine’s Day, but theatre, outdoor activities, garden talks, and more are taking place. Here’s just a sample of some of the attractions and events happening in Duluth in February 2010.

Thinking about gardening? On February 4th at the Fairlawn Mansion in Superior, WI a Winter Series Garden Talks is presented and titled “Gone to Pot”. Carrie Larson, a representative for Proven Winners brand of annuals and perennials, will talk about the art and science of successful container gardening. Learn how to select plants which have similar soil, light and care needs and look great together. She will also talk about new annual and perennial introductions for 2010. Cost is $15 in advance. www.superiorpublicmuseums.org

The Renegade Comedy Theatre presents “The Sparrow” on February 4-6, February 11-13, and February 18-20, 2010. Direct from Chicago comes this jaw-dropping original production by The House Theatre. It is a stirring, heart-wrenching original tale of an ordinary town coming to grips with an extraordinary girl. The production is held at Teatro Zuccone, 222 East Superior Street in downtown Duluth. We just attended a “Ladies We Love” singer/songwriter show last night at Teatro Zuccone which was a great experience. www.renegadecomedytheatre.com

The historic Glensheen Mansion is offering a Valentine candlelit Dinner in their charming Winter Garden with an abbreviated tour. The price is $62 per person and begins at 6:00 p.m. on February 13 and 14th. www.glensheen.org

There is plenty of snow for snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and outdoor activities. The Duluth restaurants are top notch for dining while you are in Duluth. We are happy to help with recommendations for planning your getaway and will make reservations for you along with scheduling special packages during your stay.

The Firelight Inn Duluth MN Bed and Breakfast guest journals say more than Travelocity, TripAdvisor, Priceline, and the Holiday Inn all put together!

Guests say it best! We want to share recent entries from our guest journals at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Minnesota Bed and Breakfast.

“What a great way to ring in the new year!! What we were looking for was a quiet place, to get away from the grandkids for the night. We found that here at your elegant home, and so much more. This one night gave us a place to regroup, and plan our next year, and the strength to go back home and continue what God has called us to.

The best thing?? That would have to be the first impression, being greeted at the door by Jim, and hearing Christian music in the background. That just confirmed to us that God still is in all the details.

Thank you for being part of His plan. Blessings. Shawn and Paula”

“John and I came for my annual birthday getaway. Your place was highly recommended by our son, who honeymooned here this past May. We were at another B&B in the area last January and a couple we met highly recommended ‘Firelight Inn’.

With five children and teenagers and grandchildren, a wedding soon and my husband’s business–it is our time to get away–alone–and talk and pray about our lives in the year ahead. We were so relaxed–there’s just something about a jacuzzi tub and Frank Sinatra and pampering that soothes the soul.

We’ve been to around seven or eight B&Bs–some were great–some weren’t. The difference with yours is your gift of hospitality that is present in your home. Thank you for opening it to the public–it really is a ministry.

We go home refreshed and both of us pray that God will bless you and your family this year. Jill and John”

Red Fox find home at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast

We’ve been watching two red Fox that have found a home outside at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast. They are beautiful animals, a male and female who have been resting on the side yard, playing on the ice on Oregon Creek, and chasing rabbits in the snow the last couple days.

It seems that something has happened to the female’s tail which is short and bushy. Maybe she got caught in a trap and escaped? The fox are beautiful animals and their red fur is very vivid on the new white snow that has fallen overnight.

Enjoy a couple days and nights at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek and during January we will give you two complimentary tickets to tour The Fairlawn Mansion in Superior, Wisconsin which is just a short drive from The Firelight Inn. Our quiet season rates make a romantic getaway affordable and we will amaze you with our delicious food, gracious hospitality and over-the-top service!

We hope to see you on your next trip to Duluth!
