Travel to The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast in April and Enjoy the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize Winning Musical “Rent”

A Tony Award and Pulitzer prize winning musical, Rent integrates dance, pop, rock and roll, R&B, and salsa to tell the emotional saga of a community of impoverished young artists. Set in New York’s East Village in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, the story follows the play’s colorful characters as they live and love, fight, and celebrate life, while they struggle to survive and create their own moments of glory. A rock opera for a new generation, like Hair was in the 60′s, Rent reverberates with joyful energy and an affirmation that the “seasons of love” are all there is with “no day but today.”

“Rent” will be performed at The Duluth Playhouse Theatre, 506 West Michigan Street in Duluth, Minnesota April 8-25, 2010. Since 1914, the Playhouse has brought outstanding entertainment and creative opportunities to the Duluth Community. Local and professional artists bring the finest in theatrical performances to the stage for an audience stretching across the entire northeast region. Stunning sets, beautiful costumes, and amazing talent about through the main stage productions. Curtain times are Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $23 for adults, $21 for seniors and $19 for groups. Wearin’ o’ the Green Muffins Recipe from The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! One of the favorite recipes we serve on St. Patrick’s Day at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast are pistachio muffins which are a lovely shade of pastel green. The flavor and color of the muffins comes mainly from pistachio instant pudding mix, which actually doesn’t contain any pistachio at all, but is flavored the way people have come to expect “pistachio” to taste. Added real chopped pistachios enhance their taste nicely. Enjoy!

Batter:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1/2 cup sugar
3 1/8-ounce package instant pistachio pudding mix
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup shelled, coarsely chopped pistachios

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a muffin tin with non-stick vegetable oil spray.

In a bowl cream together the butter, sugar, and pudding mix until smooth. Add eggs, beating for several minutes and scraping the bowl, till the mixture is smooth and shiny. Beat in the baking powder and salt.

Gently beat the flour into the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour and making sure everything is combined. Stir in the pistachios saving out 2 tablespoons for sprinkling on top of the muffins. Spoon the batter into the muffin tin and sprinkle with the reserved nuts blended with a little sugar.

Bake the muffins for about 25 minutes or until they begin to brown around the edges and a toothpick inserted in the middle of a muffins comes out clean.

Lynne Door was a guest at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast and we want to share her story. Injured in an automobile accident involving a deer, Lynne is paralyzed from her chest down.

Lynne contacted us to request pictures of the Inn for her recovery board which serves as her inspiration to walk once again. We are truly blessed to have her as a guest of ours and we continue to pray for her recovery. We would be honored to have her walk through our front door once again.

Please take time to click on the link and learn more about Lynne.
