Eight Tall Ships will sail into the harbor next week and it will be a once-in-a lifetime experience in Duluth Minnesota. Plans have changed significantly since 2008 when only three ships were in Duluth and many more activities have been planned to enhance the tall ships this year. More than 125,000 people attended two years ago making it the largest weekend Duluth event ever. Advance tickets this year are already outpacing 2008 and there’s hardly any overnight rooms left in town but you can still travel to Duluth for the day and play!

Go to www.visitduluth.com to buy your tickets. A multi-day on board ship tour pass is available for $15; $12 for youth 5-10 years old; and free to children 1-4 years old. The pass also provides four day access to the festival grounds and countless activities.

Other ticket options include:
• A Multi-Day Dockside Viewing Festival Pass (without ship access) available for $12; $6 for youth 5-10 years old; and free to children 1-4 years old. This pass provides four-day access to dockside ship views and the festival grounds.

• A Single-Day Dockside Viewing Festival Pass is available for $6; $4 for youth 5-10 years old; and free to children 1-4 years old. This pass provides one-day access to dockside ship views and the festival grounds. Single day dockside passes are sold only at the gate.

Dockside passes also include access to educational workshops, children’s activities and entertainment. While on board experiences have limited capacities, dockside viewing is virtually unlimited. The festival grounds can easily accommodate upwards of 60,000 fans per day.

A major highlight of the festival is the performance of Gilbert & Sullivan‘s Opera Pirates of Penzance, arranged by the University of Minnesota Duluth’s School of Fine Arts and The Duluth Playhouse. Beginning Thursday, July 29, Pirates of Penzance will be performed nightly at 6 p.m., combining the talents of the region’s top performers. Admission to Pirates is included with your tall ships ticket.

The Tall Ships Duluth 2010 festival atmosphere encompasses Bayfront Festival Park and Harbor Drive. There will be food and refreshments, musical performances, family activities, and a Green Village.
