The newest attraction on the map in Duluth Minnesota

We’re excited about Duluth Minnesota‘s newest attraction that will be open on July 1, 2010. The Timber Twister Alpine Coaster opens at Spirit Mountain and is just a short drive from The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast.

Those riding Timber Twister will race along a 3,200 foot track, through the forest, and down the mountain in individual coaster cars. Riders can travel alone or in pairs, and have complete control of their speed (up to 26 mph) for a truly unique, hands-on experience. Unlike an alpine slide, the alpine coaster makes hairpin turns, is elevated off the ground like a roller coaster, and operates year-round due to its unique track system. With a few weather exceptions, riders will enjoy this one-of-a-kind sensation throughout the year. At the end of the ride down the mountain, guests will settle back in their cars for a comfortable and scenic return trip to the top. The complete Timber Twister experience will take riders on a thrilling six-minute journey while overlooking the wondrous views of Lake Superior. There are only four alpine coasters operating in the U.S. and this will be the only one in the Midwest. This is truly a unique attraction, and is NOT an alpine slide.

Single rider tickets will be $8 and double rider tickets will be $12. This new attraction looks really fun. We’re going to check it out on Hospitality Day so we’ll let you know what we experience!

Experience the Bird Migration in Duluth Minnesota

On an average fall day and, of course, depending on the weather, 500 to 20,000 raptors fly over Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory in Duluth, Minnesota. The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Bed and Breakfast is only minutes from Hawk Ridge for your convenience and a historic and elegant lodging experience.

The Hawk Ridge Nature Reserve in Duluth, Minnesota is one of North America’s best places to experience the spectacle of the fall raptor migration. Migrating birds, including raptors and passerines, concentrate in impressive numbers at the western tip of Lake Superior. Some travel from as far away as the Arctic and pass through Duluth on their way to their wintering areas to the south. Reluctant to cross a large body of water, migrants funnel down the North Shore and along the ridges that overlook our beautiful city.

The migration continues through October and Hawk Ridge Observatory is open during that time. A short list of items to bring with you to Hawk Ridge includes binoculars, a chair, a camera and sunscreen or an umbrella.

For more information go to www.hawkridge.org. Go to our Getaway Specials page of our website for last-minute deals! We hope to see you on your next trip to Duluth!
