Holiday decorating has begun at The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast

The holiday decorating is in full speed at The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast. The Firelight room is adorned in its “holiday gold”. The garland on the stairway took over three hours to complete with lights, garland, gold pine cones, gold leaves and more placed just in the right places. The gold tree and mantel took another couple hours and in the evening light the rooms just glows!

The dining room is beautiful in shades of pink and even the chandelier is decorated with garland, pink Christmas balls and silk flowers. The pearl scarves over the windows and on the mantel add a very soft and festive feeling.

The formal living room will be red with holly berries over the windows and a 9 foot tree of red balls, garlands, flowers, red ornaments and more!

Snowmen and candy canes are the themes of the front porch holiday decorations. The aroma of fresh greens in the front porch comes from a hand made wreath by Joy this week. On your holiday visit be sure to check out the wreath’s real bird nest.

Each suite at The Firelight Inn is also adorned with silk flowers, garlands, ribbons, holiday quilts, and more surprises. Make your reservation now to enjoy the mansion in its holiday splendor. We hope to see you on your next trip to Duluth!

No hunting at The Firelight Inn Duluth MN Bed and Breakfast

This big buck has been hanging around The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast lately enjoying an apple here and there. Jim wishes he could see deer like this when he’s out hunting rather than on the side yard of the Inn each morning and evening! This big guy is enjoying the Hosta leaves and apples on the compost pile too!

The red fox has been hanging around lately too–we hope to get some pictures soon. The fall is a beautiful season at the Inn. The golden leaves are beginning to fall on the rocks down in Oregon Creek and it makes for a beautiful scene.

Celebrate Bed and Breakfast Day Sunday Oct 3rd at Duluth MN Firelight Inn

A tradition beginning in 2005, National Country Inn, Bed and Breakfast Day will be celebrated on October 3, 2010. Travel to Duluth Minnesota and stay at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Bed and Breakfast!

An “inn-thusiast” Tina Czarnota felt that people were asking “What is a bed and breakfast?” far too many times. She was struck by the apparent lack of knowledge among travelers about B&Bs. Unlike a typical hotel stay, each bed and breakfast has its own personality and each is quite different from the next.

Make your reservation at The Firelight Inn on Sunday, October 3rd and we’ll have a special gift waiting for you in your suite! Let National Country Inn, Bed and Breakfast Day be the spark you need to start planning your fall getaway!

Firelight Inn Lipstick Plants Blooming in Duluth Minnesota

The lipstick plants are blooming at The Firelight Inn Duluth Bed and Breakfast. The lipstick plants came from an original given to me over 30 years ago and still bloom as beautiful as ever! The lipstick plants hang in the Barnum Suite at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast. I have started more smaller plants and hopefully will have more to hang in the near future.

The bloom begins as a velvety tube-shaped flower and then opens and from the bottom of the tube comes a red colored oval blossom which opens over time. It’s a gorgeous sight to see and I’m so happy they like their home here at The Firelight Inn.

You will enjoy your temporary home away from home too when you stay with us! We have a September “fall back” special for a two-night midweek stay Sunday through Thursday nights. Come and relax at The Firelight Inn and enjoy the beautiful plants and flowers at the Inn and the fall foliage in Duluth, Minnesota. We hope to see you on your next trip to Duluth!

The weather is delightful so travel to Duluth MN and enjoy The Firelight Inn and Split Rock Lighthouse–both celebrating 100 years of history in 2010

Duluth Minnesota is enjoying beautiful weather and over 46 days of temperatures over 70 degrees. Lake Superior is warmer than it has been in years! Now is the time to make your plans to stay at The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Duluth Bed and Breakfast. While you are here, plan to spend a day and travel up the North Shore and enjoy Split Rock Lighthouse. Both facilities are celebrating 100 years of history in 2010.

Split Rock Lighthouse was built as a federal “aid to navigation” and served of greatest benefit to the ships that carried ore from Minnesota’s iron ranges to steel mills on the lower Great Lakes. The construction was completed in 1910. The Coast Guard began its operation of the station in 1939, and Split Rock was one of the most visited lighthouses in the nation. The use of radar on ships eventually made the station obsolete and it was closed in 1969. The State of Minnesota obtained the property from the federal government in 1971 and in 1976 the Minnesota Historical Society began to preserve and interpret the station as a museum and nationally known historic site. The adjacent State Park offers opportunities for hiking, biking, camping, picnicking and exploring the lake shore.

The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Bed and Breakfast opened in June, 1998 and for thirteen years Innkeepers Jim and Joy Fischer have greeted folks from all over the world. The historic mansion was built in 1910 by George G. Barnum a grain baron in Duluth at the turn of the century. His Barnum Grain Company eventually merged with many other grain companies to begin General Mills. Jim and Joy are the fifth family to own the home in 88 years and continue to preserve and maintain the beautiful home. Five suites feature fireplaces, Jacuzzi whirlpools for two, featherbeds, TV/VCR/DVD, CD and audio system, private bathrooms, and luxurious amenities. Their specialty is delivering a hearty delicious breakfast to your suite each morning where it can be enjoying privately in your suite and by the firelight!

A 100 year celebration is planned at The Firelight Inn for October 10, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. at 2211 E 3rd Street, Duluth, Minnesota. Admission is $5 at the door which includes a tour, refreshments and birthday cake.
