Although I was attending a workshop during the time I was in Duluth, you made my stay a real pleasure, from delicious breakfasts, to directions and recommendations, to down-home hospitality. I cannot articulate what this meant to me, nor thank you enough for your company, your beautiful bed and breakfast inn, the safe and comfortable environment and surroundings, and all the amenities of deluxe comfort that was far more luxurious than my home! "June 6 & 7, 09...Hard to believe it was 4 years ago we first stayed here...2 rooms down, & 3 to go! Moni and I are doing a long weekend getaway...a month later...to celebrate our 40th anniversary...still 2 kids, young at heart, in love forever! God has been good to us...4 wonderful grown children & 14 grandchildren later...
Jim and Joy...thank you for allowing us to spend this weekend here with you. Reading through all these comments in this book, it's no small wonder people keep coming back! We can only say "ditto" to all the nice and true things written about you...and your beautiful home you open to so many people. We head back to Waterloo, Iowa in the morning...6 hours plus breaks. "February 6-8, 2009" We've stayed at B&B's before, but have never experienced hospitality and so many wonderful details like we have found here at The Firelight Inn. The breakfasts were incredible, the fireplace and jacuzzi were the perfect way to unwind after a day of hiking. This was a much needed break as we are preparing for Jim's deployment. We hope to return soon after he's back. Hopefully we'll see you next year! J & T"

"Dear Joy and Jim, Thank you for such a wonderful trip to Duluth! We are still amazed at how every little detail was carried out with sophistication and grace. Pulling into The Firelight Inn's driveway, we could immediately tell that we would have a great experience--the house emanated warmth, elegance, and great care.
We couldn't be more happy with our room, the Brookside Suite. The beautifully restored bathroom, with modern updates like the whirlpool, was luxurious. The loveseat in front of the fireplace helped us stay warm during the first hints of autumn in the North. And having the sumptuous, bountiful breakfast delivered every morning was a delight--its beyond words how delicious it is!
The house and grounds are unparalleled. The butler's pantry, opening up to the expansive kitchen where you can often find Joy and Jim, was a welcome treat after hiking along the North Shore. (When you visit, be sure to ask for The Firelight Inn sugar cookies!) Even nature knows how wonderful this house is--the Oregon Creek right outside our window greeted us every morning and night with gentle burbling.
Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer! Rest assured, we will be returning. This is by far the most elegant, luxurious, inviting bed and breakfast in Duluth. Congratulations, Joy and Jim, on owning such a beautiful home."

"My husband surprised me with a trip to The Firelight Inn for our 10th wedding anniversary. I could not be more pleased! Our weekend started with the drive from the Twin Cities to Duluth. I was immediately impressed with a feeling of warmth and welcome as we pulled into the driveway at The Firelight Inn. Joy met us at the door, gave us the tour, and told us the history of the house. A beautiful marriage of historical pieces and modern luxury. The recommendation to eat dinner at the Pickwick was exactly what we were hoping for--thank you, Joy. We enjoyed the Celebration Package--champagne and cheese and fruit tray--so elegant. We also experienced the couples teaching massage. Anne was a great teacher and quite gifted. After the relaxing massage, we enjoyed the whirlpool. The amenities are outstanding! We loved the provision of books and games--we are thinking of planning a group getaway since this is the perfect setting for groups and personal quiet time. Jim and Joy have thought of everything. My husband and I talked it over and agree that there was never a time where we could say, "I wish they had this...". We ended our stay with a fantastic breakfast--delivery right to our door was a brilliant way to make us feel pampered. We sat reading and drinking coffee on the deck area while listening to the water rushing down the creek. Thank you for your thoughtful preparation. Our 10th anniversary will be fondly remembered and we will be back to The Firelight Inn."

"Jim and Joy, What a truly beautiful home you have! This is the 1st B&B we have ever stayed at, and it was amazing! The Superior Suite is tops! I am an early-to-rise person (at 7 am) however I was able to lay in bed and relax and watch the trees swaying in the wind outside the sky window. The next morning, I was able to close the French doors to the bedroom and watch TV while my husband slept. What a perfect room to relax in for the both of us. Breakfast was superb and having it brought to the room is brilliant. We don't like hotels and have always stayed in resorts, however for our 10th anniversary, we wanted to try something new. This stay topped them all! I look forward to our next visit back to your perfect retreat! Thank you for all the extra special touches, with the gift baskets and the wonderful soap petals. Truly unique!"
