On your next adventure to Duluth, why not take advantage of the great outdoor decks that Duluth restaurants offer? One of Duluth’s newest and chic restaurants is Tavern on the Hill located near UMD. This dining option has torch lights and a big gas fired cauldron that is lit after dark. The food at Tavern on the Hill is fresh and really upscale.
Heading down the hill a little ways from UMD is a great local hangout called Chester Creek Café at Sara’s Table. It’s located in just the right spot so that the outside dining grasps views of Lake Superior. They grow a lot of their own herbs and vegetables and their fare is always fresh as the menu changes everyday.
Fitger’s famous old brewery that is six blocks from downtown has three great dining options all with outdoor seating. Midi is the hotel restaurant and is a place you should frequent if you are looking for a fine dining experience as well as views of Lake Superior. Mexico Lindo is a really cool, fresh, and authentic Mexican dining cantina. They even make their own salsa. The Brewhouse is a sandwich and burgers place with fresh beer made in the old brewery and their signature root beer made on site. Outdoor dining includes cute little tables places near Superior street. Growlers to go makes this a hot spot! Sir Benedict’s is a quaint little soup and sandwich place not far from Fitger’s and features made on the spot sandwiches and drinks. Va Bene is in the same general area and is one of the best little Italian cafes you will come across while you are in Duluth. They have a solarium that looks out on the big lake as well as a couple of tables on the lakeside and a few tables in the front of the restaurant on the Superior Street side. Family owned Italians make this a super place and don’t forget to save room for one of their many flavors of fresh gelato and other Italian desserts.
Pickwick on Superior Street is one of the oldest dining experiences in Duluth. A charbroiler for their steaks and other fare has had them nominated for the James Beard Award. Food with a Czechoslovakian flair is their signature as well as good old American food featuring beef, pork, and seafood.
One of the more interesting Duluth MN dining options is Tycoon’s in the old original jail building in downtown on Superior Street. A speakeasy cavern is in the basement as well as street seating outside. If you want to imagine what life was like when the “Good Old Boys” ran Duluth, then this fun place is for you. They raise their own beef on a farm near Duluth and their food is very good.
If you have experienced a Duluth vacation, then you most likely have a fondness for Canal Park. Great outside dining options there include Grandma’s, Canal Park Brewing, Amazing Grace Café, Bellisio’s, Little Angie’s Cantina, and Union Station.
