Your Duluth Minnesota Outdoor Adventure Awaits

Everyone is chatting about the cold weather lately and Duluth Minnesota isn’t the only place it’s been cold and snowy. But those of us who live in Duluth make the best of the winter season by spending it outdoors enjoying the activities we love.

For those who love to cross country ski, there are miles and miles (or kilometers and kilometers) of trails in and around the Duluth area. The Bagley Nature Area has two intermediate classic loops of 3km on the UMD campus. There are 21 kilometers of trails by Duluth’s Boulder Lake. These trails are beginner to intermediate trails with Wolfski’s Ski Den warming shack that is open sunrise to sunset. The trails are groomed daily for classic and skate ski and very nicely maintained by Minnesota Power.

Chester Bowl Park has skiing for intermediate to advanced levels and a MN ski pass is required. Hartley Trail is a beginner to intermediate trail with some gently slopes and a MN ski pass is required. The Lester Amity Trail is 15 kilometers of beginner to advanced trails of varied terrain through pine, aspen and birch forests. An additional 3 km circles the Lester Park Golf Course and is accessible from the main Lester-Amity Trail. 5 kilometers are lit mornings and evenings and a MN ski pass is required.

The Magney-Snively Trail is an intermediate to advanced train not recommended for beginners. You will ski some large hills and a beautiful hardwood forest on a rugged trail. A MN ski pass is required. The Piedmont Trail is a beginning to intermediate trail through the forest and offers a beautiful overlook of the St. Louis River Valley. A MN ski pass is required.

Snowflake Nordic Ski Center is a favorite for guests of The Firelight Inn on Oregon Creek Bed and Breakfast. An intermediate classis and skate ski trail that is groomed daily. Lessons and rental are available. A warming chalet with showers, sauna, changing rooms, lounge and snacks is available and the trails are lit for evening skiing.

Spirit Mountain offers all skill levels of skiing, snowboarding, and snow adventure. Our lodging partnership offers big discounts for guests staying with us. Make sure to ask for a discount pass upon check in or select that add on special package when making your reservation online. There are great savings midweek if you get get away Monday through Thursday. Fat Biking is another great outdoor adventure during the winter months in the snow. The Duluth Experience offers fat biking adventures, a winter photography session, snowshoeing adventures and they will be exploring the Apostle Island ice caves when they become available this year.
