It was a perfect, sunny afternoon and the temperature in Duluth Minnesota was near 80 degrees. On a free afternoon, the Innkeepers decided to act as if they were tourists and enjoy time in Canal Park near Lake Superior.
After easing into a very convenient parking spot and easily prepaying the small fee to park, we walked over by the shipping canal and took in the sunlight, breezes and the waves of the big lake. The Army Corp of Engineers, the Duluth Airport, the Duluth Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard were participating in a rescue training exercise. There were fire trucks heading to Park Point and we watched the new Fire Boat make its way through the canal and then headed out into the lake towards the small plane airport on the end of the point. It was good to know it was just a drill and nothing seriously wrong.
It didn’t take us long to find Vikre Distillery where we enjoyed a bit of spirits and relaxed in the comfortable lounging area. The gentlemen behind the bar were so friendly and knowledgeable about their craft and quickly make us a cocktail designed just to our taste and liking. We chatted with a couple from Owatonna, MN who were visiting Duluth on their honeymoon. We shared our suggestions for attractions and dining during the rest of their stay in our gorgeous city.
We were off for more walking through Canal Park and ended up on the outdoor upper deck of Grandma’s Restaurant where we enjoyed an early dinner. The food was delicious, the view perfect and the weather couldn’t have been better.
After our relaxing dinner, we walked through a few shops that were intriguing and checked out ideas to give our guests. We will help you find the best places to eat and drink and explore when you are in Duluth for your vacation, honeymoon, anniversary or romantic getaway. We highly recommend you schedule an activity with TheDuluthExperience.com as they offer 5 star experiences including kayaking, bike tours, brewery tours, history tours and sightseeing tours. Their new Axes and Ales Experience sounds delightful and their Spirits and Ciders Experience includes Vikre Distillery!
Our Inn is the perfect place to relax after a full day of sightseeing and activities. We are located on a secluded dead end street and Oregon Creek flows on the side of our property. Our historic property is situated in the historic neighborhood among many mansions and is away from all the hustle and bustle of Canal Park but just minutes away.
We would love to be your hosts on your next Duluth getaway!
